Constellation’s Spring Session 2 classes are still open for enrollment! With offerings for all ages in acting, musical theater, comedy, filmmaking, and movement, there’s a little something for everyone. All spring classes take place at Constellation Studios (411 E 7th St).

Movement for the Actor: Building Stage Presence (Ages 18+)

Movement for the Actor: Building Stage Presence (Ages 18+)

Constellation’s Movement for the Actor: Building Stage Presence is designed to enhance and expand an actor’s movement vocabulary on stage. This course focuses on developing physical awareness, character embodiment, and expressive storytelling. Open to adults of all experience levels, from novices to those with some acting background, this class offers a supportive environment to explore the nuances of non-verbal communication and stage movement. Through practical exercises and creative exploration, students will learn to navigate the stage with purpose, convey emotions through movement, and create a compelling physical presence. This class not only enriches performance skills but also boosts confidence, fosters self-awareness, and opens new avenues for artistic expression.

Please Note: The dates of this class were recently changed. There will be no class on April 8 due to the eclipse. Class will now meet March 18, 25; April 1,15, 22, 29.

Acting for Kids: Magical Movies (Grades 5-6)

Acting for Kids: Magical Movies (Grades 5-6)

From Harry Potter and Percy Jackson to The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings, Acting for Kids: Magical Movies (Grades 5-6) is a fast-paced and fun introduction to acting that will use scenes from popular kids’ magical fantasy-genre movies to focus on the building blocks of acting techniques, including voice and speech development, creative movement, and exploration of character. Through collaborative scene study, students will emerge from the class more articulate, engaged, and confident performers. This class is perfect for beginners, as well as acting students with some experience.

Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner (Ages 18+)

Constellation’s Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner reinforces and builds upon improvisational skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv, will offer an introduction to long-form improv, and is open to adults with previous improv experience (class, workshop, troupe, etc). Improv is a magical art form that is not only fantastically fun, it develops storytelling ability, enhances listening, communication, and collaboration skills, builds resilience, increases confidence, and so much more!

Acting for Littles: Wizards & Wonderlands (Grades K-2)

Acting for Littles: Wizards & Wonderlands (Grades K-2)

Acting for Littles: Wizards and Wonderlands is a theater arts class for young, budding performers that draws inspiration from the magical worlds of stories such as The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and more. Designed especially for Littles (grades K-2nd), this class builds upon young, budding performers’ interest in acting, movement, and self-expression in a fun, dynamic, and interactive learning environment. Students will become familiar with the basics of scripts, stage directions, and storytelling while also using confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking and a lifelong love of performing.

Film Directing & Production for Teens (Grades 7-12)

In this Constellation Studios workshop, teens will get to know the ins and outs of all the gear needed to make a movie. This immersive, hands-on learning environment will give young filmmakers the opportunity to develop their camera, lens, lighting, audio, & directing skills. At the end of the session, teens will put their skills to work, filming their in-studio scene.

Using their own iPhones/iPads, campers will learn how to plan, build, shoot, and edit movies, all while learning the ropes of being on a movie set. Whether your passion is acting in front of the camera or making movie magic behind the camera, campers will explore the fundamentals of storytelling and cinematography in a fun, hands-on, creative environment.

Summer Camp: Choose Your Own (Playwriting) Adventure (Rising Grades 4-7)

For the creative writer who wants to see their work come to life on stage, Constellation’s Choose Your Own (Playwriting) Adventure offers rising 4th – 7th graders a chance to hone their writing skills and stretch their imaginations through the art of playwriting. Using the classic Choose Your Own Adventure series as inspiration—and fresh off the heels of Constellation’s Alex Gold: Stuck on Repeat—campers will learn how to craft their own mini-plays that explore fantastical adventures, alternate endings, and unexpected outcomes. Using Choose Your Own Adventure-themed activities and world-building improvisational exercises, campers will utimately collaborate to build one cohesive story that will be showcased with a staged reading at the Ted Jones Playhouse by both campers and professional actors!

Summer Camp: Broadway Cabaret for Teens: The Teen Musical (Rising Grades 8-12)

For aspiring young performers eager to dive into the craft of Musical Theater, Broadway Cabaret for Teens: The Teen Musical emphasizes the importance of the ensemble while also providing opportunities for individual performers to step into the spotlight for solo and small group performances. Taught by an accomplished musical theater educator with expertise in music direction for teens, campers will build music, acting, and performance skills as they are led through a fun, collaborative rehearsal process to prepare songs and scenes from classic and contemporary teen-centric Broadway musicals. Mean Girls, Bye Bye Birdie, Dear Evan Hansen, Heathers, Bring It On, and The Prom are just a few of the shows campers will explore. The week will culminate in an afternoon showcase at the John Waldron Arts Center!

For aspiring triple-threats with some music and/or musical theater experience, Broadway Bootcamp for Kids for rising 4th – 8th graders allows young performers to experience a snapshot of the professional rehearsal process. Led by a team of musical theater professionals, campers will work on material from fun, contemporary Broadway shows. The week of intensive training in acting, singing, and dancing will help budding musical theater artists develop and sharpen skills, gain confidence, and make friends along the way! Broadway Bootcamp for Kids will culminate in a showcase at the John Waldron Arts Center that highlights the ensemble and lets soloists shine!

Summer Camp: Creative Movement for PreK

Creative Movement is a space for PreK campers to explore dance, music, imagination, and foster social-emotional. While some dance terms may be introduced, creative movement exists outside any one genre of dance; students will focus on self-expression and storytelling to guide their movement. In addition to dancing, students will use books and visual art to hone their skills as budding choreographers. Led by Callie Rekas, an experienced early childhood educator with a master’s degree in Dance Education from NYU, Creative Movement is the perfect introduction to performing arts for the PreK student.

Show off & capture your comedy skills in Constellation Stage & Screen’s SNL: Sketches ‘N Laughs for Kids (rising grades 4-7)! This immersive & experiential variety show-style camp will give young performers and comedians the opportunity to work in a safe, fun, and collaborative environment, creating bite-sized sketch comedy shorts and variety acts! Opening monologues, silly sketches, End-of-Summer Update, musicals guests, and kooky commercial provide the perfect playground for the creative kid with a funny bone. The camp will culminate with a a mini-SNL episode, taped before a live studio audience!

Musical Theater Workshop (Ages 18+) – SOLD OUT

Do you dream of being on stage in the next big musical? Want to nail that next audition? Do you struggle with knowing what to sing? Do you just want to have fun belting out your favorite show tunes? If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this class is for you! For budding performers with some singing experience to accomplished performers with a long resume, this 6-week workshop is geared towards audition technique and exploring and building musical theatre repertoire (although all genres of music are welcome). You will be able to experiment with new material or fine-tune songs that are already in your repertoire.

For rising 1st-3rd graders, Theater Camp for Littles: Dynamic Duos offers full-day, hands-on activities that encourage and promote the exploration and creation of theater arts in a fun, engaging camp environment. With a focus on teamwork and fostering imagination, campers will devise their own theater pieces by examining character relationships between classic and contemporary dynamic duos. Mario & Luigi, Bluey & Chloe, Pooh & Piglet, Barbie & Ken, Woody & Buzz Lightyear, and Marlin & Dory are just a few of the dynamic duos that will spark campers’ imaginations. Skill-building theater exercises, along with dynamic duo-themed improvisation games and activities, will focus on acting, movement, and storytelling. Campers will gain self-confidence, respect for others, and a greater ability to express themselves both physically and vocally, all while making new friends along the way. Musical Theater Playground: Exploring the Disney Songbook is an introduction to theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) that dives into the magical and memorable tunes that make up Disney’s rich repertoire—from Mary Poppins to Moana and everything in-between! Students will practice skills such as vocal expression, building characters, and movement, all while exploring Disney’s dynamic treatment of themes across time. Summer Camp: Backstage Business: Costume Creation (Rising Grades 4-7) – SOLD OUT

Take a peek behind the curtain in Constellation’s Backstage Business: Costume Creation camp for rising 4th – 7th graders. For aspiring young theater artists who are drawn to the technical elements of theater, this half-day camp will offer an introduction to the world of theatrical costuming. With full access to Constellation’s costume storage as inspiration, campers will spend the week conceptualizing, planning, and building their own one-of-a-kind costume piece. Campers will learn skills in sketching, sewing, fabric selection, color theory, and how to research various time periods and styles, all while having fun and making friends along the way!
