To Die For
A Killer New Musical

The BPP and Indiana University Department of Theatre and Drama, the combination that brought last year’s smash hit, Kissing Frogs, will present an experimental workshop production of To Die For, a new musical inspired by the acclaimed novel by Joyce Maynard.  Many will remember To Die For from the Gus Van Sant film, for which Nicole Kidman garnered a Golden Globe Award.

To Die For is a powerful pulp satire about an ambitious small town girl, Suzanne Stone, who's seduction by a fame-obsessed culture that defines our need “to be known” drives her to commit a carnal crime that captures the imagination of the world and changes the lives of those around her forever.

Playwright and lyricist David Javerbaum is an American comedy writer and the former Executive Producer of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His work for that program, including four years as Head Writer, has earned him 11 Emmys, two additional Emmy nominations, two Peabody Awards, and Television Critics Awards for both Best Comedy and Best News Show.  David received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Lyrics for A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!, which won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album.  As a musical theater lyricist, he earned a 2008 Tony nomination for his work on the Broadway adaptation of John Waters’ film Cry-Baby.

Composer Linda Perry is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and music producer. She first became known worldwide as founder and front woman for the rock band 4 Non Blondes, before going on to penning smash hit songs for artists such as Pink, Christina Aguilera, Courtney Love and Faith Hill, becoming one of the most successful pop composers/producers of our time.  In 2004, Perry received a Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year for "Beautiful” performed by Christina Aguilera.

The project was conceived by and is being developed with Tony-nominated Producers Tara Smith and B. Swibel, whose affiliated companies, Playing Pretend Productions and b. swibel presents, helped bring Xanadu, Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome, America!, The Seagull and Speed the Plow to Broadway.

To Die For is expected to be, by far and away, the most popular show of BPP’s 31 year history.
