Girls Camp of Rock - Teachers

Kate Fagan Burgun (Co-Director/Artistic Director/Songwriting) has written and performed with punk, rock, reggae, and ska bands in Chicago. Known to pick up the bass, jump on the keyboards, or work the guitar, Kate is a versatile performer and commanding lead vocalist — she portrayed the country icons Patsy Cline and June Carter Cash. Kate was twice voted Chicago's top female vocalist.  She wrote and produced a rock opera, recorded an album with reggae legand Peter Tosh, and is a Grammy voter.  Kate was marketing director at the Chicago Academy of the Arts in Chicago and founded the summer arts camp there.  She was national coordinator for Rock Against Racism and served on the Lotus Music Festival Board in Bloomington.  Her long-time ska band, Heavy Manners, released new material in 2010. Check out the CD "Heavier Than Now," or the singles "Fight the Good Fight," "Flamin' First," and "I Don't Wanna Be Too Cool." Kate holds a B.A. in Journalism, an M.A. in Management, and is a graduate of Leadership Bloomington.  Her favorite girl group is The Maybenauts.  Ronnie Spector, Tina Turner, Chrissy Hynde, Bonnie Raitt, and Christine McVie are her heros.

Anne Auer
(Co-Director), after serving two years as associate director of advertising and public relations for the Indiana University Kelley School of Business (KSB), became director of marketing and communications within the KSB Office of the Dean, in February of 2007.  She earned her MBA in marketing from the Kelley School of Business in 1996 and her undergraduate degree in psychology from Harvard University in 1988.  Anne is the wife of IU Dean, Matthew R. Auer, Hutton Honors College, and mother of twin 10 year olds, Emma and John, who are the inspiration for her involvement in the Girls Camp of Rock.  She brings a passion for learning and an interest in career and skill development for people of all ages to the GCOR, but offers absolutely no musical talent!  She hopes that all young people learn to be proficient in career fields they love!  Her favorite girl group is Bananarama and her favorite female performer is Shawn Colvin.

Jenn Cristy (Songwriter/Musical Instruction) launched into the music scene in 2003, wowing listeners from the start with an old-school rock 'n roll style with a decidedly contemporary flair. Her piano-driven melodies are supported by a dynamic voice and vibrant stage presence that gets audiences on their feet -- and leaves them wanting more. Jenn's memorable lyrics, incomparable piano skills and straight-to-the-heart musical themes are further testament to her years of writing, recording and performing. Add some remarkable musicians to the mix -- long time band member Dave Dwinell, Allen Parauzas, and Chris McConnell, -- and it's no wonder Jenn's loyal fan base continues to grow at an explosive pace. Jenn has shared the stage with a veritable who's-who of artists: Shawn Mullins, Antigone Rising, Indigenous, Bree Sharp, Jeffery Gaines, Danielia Cotton and Michael Gabliki (Rusted Root), among others. With her third album , 'Hotel Confessions' now available, Jenn continues to meet the demand for her music and make an indelible mark on today’s music scene.

Krista Detor (
Songwriting/Musical Instruction) inexplicably found herself in Bloomington and fell in love with the rolling green hills of Southern Indiana around the turn of the century.  It was all uphill from there and the momentum hasn’t stopped. Musical styles and influences abound in her writing and she displays a versatility that is hard to categorize.  A poetic and sought-after lyricist, Krista's songs are vignettes, telling stories of time and experience. Her quiet musical intensity has been compared to that of Leonard Cohen. She’s more than humbled by the comparison-–but tends to shy away from discussion of inspiration and influence.  She’s a stand-out; an enormously talented musician, performer and writer.  She lives and records in Bloomington with her musical partner, Producer, David Weber, and a whole barnyard full of children and animals. Check out Krista's music and videos at kristadetor.com/upcoming.
